LSU Continues to Dominate SEC Tourney, Run Rules Kentucky

It seems like every game that LSU plays in the SEC Tournament shows how good Paul Mainieri is when they travel to Hoover. What they did late Thursday night was another example of that as the Tigers run ruled the Kentucky Wildcats 10-0 in seven innings.

Kramer Robertson got things going in the bottom of the second after Luke Becker was unable to make the grab and that was enough to get Beau Jordan and Michael Papierski to score, making it 2-0. The runs kept coming for the Tigers as they put together three straight RBI singles to blow things open.

The onslaught continued in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single up the middle from Nick Coomes. After Beau Jordan got Coomes home off of a groundout, Robertson put the final touches with a three-run bomb out to left field.

Alex Lange earned his eighth win of the season with his second straight complete game. The junior only allowed six hits and struck out seven on the evening.

The LSU Tigers will now advance to the semifinals on Saturday with first pitch slated for 12 pm. They will take on the winner of the elimination game between South Carolina and Kentucky.

Extra Bases:

Lange Passes McDonald: The junior learned a lot from former Tiger Ben McDonald throughout his career. Now he has passed up one of the legends in the program with 374 strikeouts in his collegiate career. Lange showed appreciation for him saying that it’s pretty cool to be mentioned in the same breath as a legend such as McDonald.
