It’s something about LSU in the 8th inning in the NCAA tournament this season. For the second time in as many weeks, the Fighting Tigers came from behind in the eighth to take down Florida State 5-4.

The Seminoles started off strong with Dylan Busby sending one flying to center field to take an early 2-0 lead. Antoine Duplantis got the Tigers within one in the bottom of the first when he showed off his speed scoring off of a wild pitch.

Busby continued to get runs on the board in the top of the third with an RBI single up the middle. Duplantis responded with an RBI single of his own in the bottom of the third.

The back and forth between the two teams continued with Quincy Nieporte hitting an RBI single through the right side in the fifth inning. However, LSU continued to fight in the bottom frame with Michael Papierski hitting a solo shot out to left field to keep LSU in it.

The eighth inning was one of the stranger things that many college baseball fans have seen inside TD Ameritrade Park with the Tigers tying it up with Cole Freeman scoring from first after Florida State committed three errors.

Greg Deichmann followed that up with an RBI single to give the Tigers the win.

Jared Poche got his 11th win of the season and tied Scott Schultz’ career wins record in relief. The senior allowing only two hits and struck out two in two and two-thirds innings of work. Zach Hess got his second save of the year walking one and striking out one in a third of an inning.

The Tigers will now take on Oregon State on Monday with first pitch slated for 6 pm.
