LSU Fills Running Back Gap in Recruiting

Tiger Stadium at Night

By BEN LOVE

After this 2017 season a number of seasoned LSU rushers will exit the Tiger turnstile.

Bruiser Darrel Williams from New Orleans will be out of eligibility. Heisman hopeful Derrius Guice has already made his intentions clear to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Even after those two, the remaining options in the Bayou Bengal backfield carry question marks.

So it’s no surprise that the position is one of the most important in LSU’s 2018 recruiting cycle.

At this point last week Ed Orgeron and the Tigers had exactly zero commitments at running back. Now, after a flurry of “Hold That Tiger!” tweets from Da Coach O, LSU is sitting on three rushers.

The Ol’ War Skule benefited from its annual summer camp in a big way, landing verbal pledges from the state’s top back in AJ Carter (a Many prep standout who flipped from UCLA), talented Florida rusher Chris Curry and Alabama athlete Tae Provens, who could play some in the slot, too.

Listen below to my weekly “Flip the Script” segment with Shea Dixon of Geaux247 for even more insight into these developments, how it affects 2019 recruiting at running back and as well as which former Tiger toter resembles Carter in playing style.
