Around the Boot: Week 3

Posted by clintdomingue on September 18, 2017 in Blogs, Latest News

Around the Boot

Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

Much like the Cajuns and Tigers, it was a less than ideal week for some of the teams in Louisiana.

Southern Jags:

The Jags misfortune continues with former LSU head coach Frank Wilson leading his UTSA Roadrunners to a convincing 51-17 victory over Southern University.

The passing game for the Jags continues to underwhelm with only 65 total yards through the air and three interceptions. Southern will head over to Alcorn State this weekend with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Tulane Green Wave:

The Green Wave weren’t expected to keep it competitive last weekend when they headed up to Norman to take on the second-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The game started out good for Tulane with an early 14-7 lead.

It became all Sooners the rest of the way with 42 unanswered points on the way to a 56-14 win. The Green Wave makes its way back to Yulman Stadium to take on Army with kickoff at noon.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:

Louisiana Tech was one of the fortunate ones this past weekend in the state of Louisiana with a big win over Western Kentucky. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were down by nine points.

Kam McKnight helped Louisiana Tech rally to a 23-22 victory in their conference opener with a short run into the endzone. Louisiana Tech will now hit the road to take on South Carolina on Saturday with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.

McNeese State Cowboys:

McNeese State also got a win this past weekend over Alcorn State in the final moments of the ballgame. James Tabary showed off his arm during the final drive with a 33-yard pass over to Kent Shelby to give the Cowboys a 34-27 lead with 26 seconds left on the clock.

McNeese State will return to Cowboy Stadium this week to take on Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.

Nicholls State Colonels:

Fresh off of a nailbiter against Texas A&M, Tim Rebowe and the Colonels dominated Prairie View A&M by the score of 44-13. Quarterback Chase Fourcade made it look easy, going 18-of-26 for 248 yards and two touchdowns on the evening.

The Colonels hit the road to Huntsville for a Southland Conference battle against Sam Houston State with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Grambling State Tigers:

Grambling got it done every which way on Saturday against Jackson State. The Tigers started off with a safety and wrapped it up with an 11-yard fumble recovery from Perry Cargo Jr. to come away with a 36-21 victory.

Grambling will head down to Itta Bena, Mississippi to take on Mississippi Valley State with kickoff set for 6 pm.
