Saints Shutout Dolphins in Sloppy London Game

It wasn’t a pretty game Sunday afternoon when the New Orleans Saints (2-2) took the pitch at Wembley Stadium, but the end result was a good look headed into the bye week with a 20-0 shutout of the Miami Dolphins (1-2).

The Dolphins went down the field with a methodical opening drive down the field and got all the way to the Saints four yard line, but Ken Crawley came up with an interception in the endzone to keep the Dolphins out of scoring position.

Both teams had trouble scoring throughout the first half until Wil Lutz broke the tie as time expired in the first half with a 43-yard field goal.

The Saints finally found the endzone in the third quarter with Drew Brees finding Michael Thomas on a three yard pass to extend their lead to 10-0. Lutz got the Saints out to a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Alvin Kamara put in the final nail off of a shovel pass late to seal the victory.

The Saints have a bye week before returning to action on October 15th when they host the Detroit Lions (2-1) with kickoff set for 12 pm.

Extra Points:

No Turnovers: The last few seasons for the New Orleans Saints have been filled with poor turnovers on offense that wound up costing this team more than their fair share of games. Four games into the season, the Saints have done something that hadn’t been done since 1991: get through four games without committing a turnover.

Four games into the season have said a lot about the #Saints in recent years.

Improved Third Down Defense: Another big stat for the Saints is their ability to shut down the Dolphins on third down. On eight third downs for Miami, they only converted one of those. Every week it seems like this defense gets better at a different aspect of the game.
