Around the Boot: Week Six

Posted by clintdomingue on October 8, 2017 in Blogs, Latest News

Around the Boot

Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

Southern Jaguars:

The Jaguars gave the homecoming crowd something to cheer for on Saturday afternoon with a 35-14 victory over Alabama A&M. Isaiah Bailey was a big part of the victory with eight receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown.

The Jaguars will have next week off before traveling to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Jackson State.

Tulane Green Wave:

The Green Wave completely rolled over Tulsa early on Sunday afternoon after having to reschedule kickoff for their conference matchup due to Hurricane Nate. Tulane was more than up for it with 48 points coming in the first half en route to a 62-28 victory over the Golden Tornado.

Dontrell Hilliard accounted for four of those touchdowns with 175 yards off of 19 carries. Tulane will look to keep the momentum rolling on next weekend when they take on FIU on the road with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:

It was a special game for UAB as they put the names of several patients at the local children’s hospital for Saturday’s matchup. The Blazers came away with a 23-22 win over Louisiana Tech after Barnes missed the extra point with 3:32 left in regulation.

Louisiana Tech will have next week off before returning home to Ruston for a big game against Southern Miss.

McNeese State Cowboys:

The Cowboys matchup against Abilene Christian only saw points in the first half, but that was all they needed as McNeese State came away with a 13-7 win to improve to 5-1. Gunnar Raborn wound up being the difference on Saturday with a pair of field goals from 32 and 27-yards respectively.

McNeese State will have next week off before returning to Cowboy Stadium on October 21st for a homecoming matchup against Incarnate Word. Kickoff will be set for 6 pm.

Nicholls State Colonels:

Nicholls State had quite the battle Saturday night against in-state rival Northwestern State. The Demons had a 10-7 lead headed into the fourth quarter and looked poised to hold on late. However, Dontrel Taylor took it into the endzone with 3:54 left in the game to give the Colonels a 14-10 win.

Nicholls State stays in Thibodaux this weekend to take on Abeliene Christian with kickoff set for 3 pm.

Southeastern Louisiana Lions:

It was another back and forth matchup for the Lions, but was able to come away with a 49-30 win in their homecoming game against Incarnate Word, improving to 3-1 in Southland Conference play. Southeastern had a pretty balanced attack on the ground with Marcus Cooper and Darren Johnson both eclipsing 100 yards.

The Lions will now head over to Houston this Saturday when they take on Houston Baptist with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Grambling State Tigers:

Grambling looked great on Saturday with a 31 point first half inside the Cotton Bowl en route to a 34-21 victory over Prairie View A&M. Devante Kincade only completed nine passes, but had three touchdown passes and 226 total yards through the air.

Grambling will have the week off before returning home on October 21st to take on Alcorn State. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
