Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Southern Jaguars:
The Jaguars had the week off after last week’s 35-14 win over Alabama A&M. They’ll return to action on Saturday with a road trip to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Jackson State. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
The Green Wave took a step back on Saturday with a 23-10 loss to Florida International. Tulane got within three points after a 12-yard touchdown run from Dontrell Hilliard. However, the Panthers scored 10 unanswered points to come away with a 23-10 victory.
Tulane will return to Yulman Stadium on Saturday with a matchup against South Florid. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs had last weekend off after a tough loss against BYU. They return to Ruston for a big game against Southern Miss. Kickoff is schedule for 6 pm.
McNeese State Cowboys:
McNeese State had last week off after a nailbiter against Abeliene Christian. The Cowboys return to Lake Charles for their homecoming game against Incarnate Word. Kickoff will be set for 6 pm.
Nicholls State Colonels:
Nicholls State has gotten it done all kinds of ways this season and found another way to come away with a W thanks to Lorran Fonseca nailing a single-game program record five field goals en route to a 29-20 victory over Abileine Christian. The special teams also recorded a touchdown thanks to a blocked punt courtesy of Kevin Johnson.
Nicholls State has next week off before hitting the road and heading to San Antonio to take on Incarnate Word with kickoff set for 2 pm.
Southeastern Louisiana Lions:
Southeastern Louisiana dominated the field on Saturday with a 56-10 victory over Houston Baptist to win their fourth straight game. The offense exploded for over 500 yards of total offense including 123 yards off nine carries from freshman Marcus Cooper.
The Lions will stay on the road this Saturday when they take on Abilene Christian. Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm.
Grambling State Tigers:
Grambling had last week off after a big win over Prairie View. The Tigers return home on Saturday when they take on Alcorn State. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
