The end result for LSU (3-2) in their stay in Maui may not have been what Will Wade wanted, but they learned a lot of things, especially when it comes to what they need to improve on.
“We confirmed that we can’t guard anybody. That’s the number one thing we did.” Wade said to the media after the loss to Marquette (3-2). “We thought that going in, but we certainly confirmed that out here. All three teams shot over 50% against us. It was a great experience, but you’ve got to take advantage of the opportunities that you have, and I don’t think we took advantage enough of them.”
LSU got put behind the eight ball early on with Marquette getting out to a 13-8 lead with 16:47. Things went from bad to worse as the first half progressed with the Golden Eagles getting out to as much as a 13 point lead before the Tigers made it a two-point ballgame as both teams headed into the locker room.
The Tigers kept it within five points for much of the second half, but were unable to take the lead despite another strong showing by Tremont Waters, who put up 39 points in the ballgame. The Golden Eagles began to shut the door with some emphasis in the final seven minutes to come away with a 94-84 victory.
LSU will return to the mainland to host UT Martin (1-4) in the PMAC with tipoff set for 7 pm.
