On Tuesday night, head coach Will Wade was extremely concerned about LSU’s (9-3) chances as they headed to Memphis (9-4) for their first true road game.
It’s safe to say that they passed that test on Thursday night with a 71-61 win thanks to a big second half from Skylar Mays and Tremont Waters.
For much of the first half, it was a battle between both teams that saw it tied up four times before the first media timeout. Memphis was able to maintain the lead for much of the first half, but a three-pointer from Aaron Epps with 2:44 left gave LSU a one-point lead. However, the first half ended with both teams tied at 36 after a pair of layups in the final six seconds.
LSU got out in front early in the second half with a solid 10-0 run to make it 52-43 left in the ballgame. They were able to put it out of reach after the final media timeout with a big three-ball from Brandon Sampson to make it 70-59.
LSU will open up SEC play on Wednesday when they host the 16th Kentucky Wildcats (9-2) with tipoff set for 7:30 pm.
