A strong performance from senior Duop Reath wasn’t enough for the LSU Tigers (11-7, 2-4 SEC) on Saturday afternoon as they came up short against the Vanderbilt Commodores (7-12, 2-5 SEC).
The Commodores got out in front early thanks to some poor shooting on offense by LSU and jumped out to a 10-2 lead. The Tigers managed to tie things up after a jumper from Aaron Epps with 8:53 left in the first half, but Vanderbilt took control to end the half and went into the break up 34-28.
It looked like Vandy was about to pull away early in the second half when they went up by 16 after a three-pointer from Riley LaChance. However, Reath was a key cog in the rally with 18 of his 31 points coming in the second half. He even got the Tigers out in front late in the ballgame.
It wasn’t meant to be though as the Commodores took back control and came away with a 77-71 victory.
LSU will return to action on Tuesday when they host Texas A&M in the PMAC with tipoff set for 8 pm.
