LSU Shuts Out Mississippi State In Rubber Match

Posted by clintdomingue on March 31, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

Ma’Khail Hilliard continued to show that he is an absolute stud on the mound on Saturday afternoon and helped LSU (18-11, 5-4 SEC) take down Mississippi State (14-15, 2-7 SEC) 4-0.

How It Happened

Austin Bain put the Tigers up in the bottom of the second with a double to right center, scoring Nick Webre.

The big bats woke up though late in the ballgame when Daniel Cabrera blasted one out into right field to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh. Zach Watson finished the job in the eighth with a solo shot out to left field.

Hilliard improved to 6-1 on the year allowing three hits, walked two and struck out nine in six shutout innings. Nick Bush got his first save of the season, allowing one hit in two innings of work.

Big Number: 9

Hilliard put together another strong outing on Saturday with nine strikeout to help the Tigers get the series win.

Player of the Game: Daniel Cabrera

While Hilliard is more than deserving, Daniel Cabrera deserves the honor tonight with the two-run blast giving them some much needed insurance.

Next Up: Midweek Game Against Nicholls Tuesday: First Pitch at 6:30 pm
