LSU Falls to South Carolina 11-4

Posted by clintdomingue on April 21, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

When a team beats you like South Carolina (22-17, 8-9 SEC) did on Saturday afternoon, you’d expect a better effort. However, the LSU Tigers (24-16, 9-8 SEC) suffered yet another loss this time by the score of 11-4.

How It Happened

The Gamecocks wasted little time getting on the board, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a n RBI double from LT Tolbert. They continued to pour it on in the second with another crooked-number inning jumpstarted by a two-out, two-run double by Madison Stokes.

It may have been the bottom of the third, but South Carolina really put the game out of reach with a pair of runs to make it 8-0.

LSU finally got on board in the eighth with a four-run inning capped off by a three-run bomb out to left field to make it 9-4, but Stokes struck again in the bottom frame to put the game out of reach.

Ma’Khail Hilliard dropped to 7-3 on the season, allowing eight runs off of eight hits in two and two-thirds of an inning of work.

By the Numbers: 2

LSU’s defense was less than ideal with a pair of errors on the afternoon. However, only one led to a run in the bottom of the eighth when the game was well in hand.

Player of the Game: Adam Hill

The Gamecocks pitcher threw a solid six innings, allowing only four hits, walked four, and struck out seven on the afternoon. You’ve got to appreciate the effort from him.

Next Up: Look to Avoid Sweep; First Pitch 12:30 pm
