South Carolina Rallies Back Down 6-0 to Take Down LSU

Posted by clintdomingue on April 22, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

For a while on Sunday afternoon, it seemed like LSU (24-17, 9-9 SEC) was poised to avoid the sweep on Sunday after getting up 6-0. However, South Carolina (23-17, 9-9 SEC) was able to complete the sweep in the final innings, winning 8-6.

How It Happened

Daniel Cabrera got things started for the Tigers in the top of the third with a three-run home run out to left field. He was able to strike again in the fifth with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 4-0.

LSU was able to get two more runs across later in the inning off of a wild pitch and an RBI single through the left side to make it 6-0. However, the Gamecocks started to creep back into the ballgame with a four-run sixth inning highlighted by a two-run single out to left field by Noah Campbell.

Justin Row evened things up in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run bomb out to left field. LT Tolbert came up clutch in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out single to right center for what would be the game-winner.

Austin Bain dropped to 1-2 on the season allowing two runs off of two hits in a third of an inning.

Big Number: 8

The final three innings for the Gamecocks was a spectacle to behold, putting up eight runs off of eight hits on the afternoon.

Player of the Game: Daniel Cabrera

Cabrera had a great ballgame and could have been the catalyst towards the Tigers getting a win on Sunday, going three-of-four with four RBIs.
