Grading the Series: LSU vs Ole Miss

Posted by clintdomingue on April 29, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

LSU’s series against the Ole Miss Rebels started off with a very unusual sixth inning and ended with the Tigers coming up just short in the rubber match. All the while, it felt like a typical weekend for the Tigers.

Let’s grade out their performances over the weekend.

Offense: C

Grading out the offense was tough. They had a decent weekend at the plate, batting .269 as a team with six extra base hits. The reason why their grade went down was because of the fact that a total of 21 players were left on base in the series. This could’ve been a big weekend, but we’re sitting here talking about what might have been.

Infield Defense: D

It seems like every week, there’s issues with the infield’s defense with all three errors committed by the infield. Yes, two of those were by the pitcher, but it’s still unacceptable to see this right before the calendar flips over to May.

Outfield Defense: B

The defense in the outfield looked great with a pair of web gems by Zach Watson and Antoine Duplantis.

Weekend Rotation: C+

Ma’Khail Hilliard returned to his normal self on Friday night, throwing seven solid innings and that really saved the rotation’s grade from dipping any lower. While Zack Hess had a good outing, Todd Peterson really brought down the overall grade pitching only two innings and allowing four runs off of five hits.

Bullpen: F

When you have a pitcher not record an out before being pulled, that’s when you know it was a bad weekend for the bullpen. Add the fact that they allowed 16 runs off of 14 hits, walked 11, and struck out nine and you’ll see how rough of a weekend it was for the bullpen.

Overall Grade: D
