Warriors Hang On to Take Down New Orleans Pelicans

Posted by clintdomingue on May 2, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The New Orleans Pelicans gave it their all on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Golden State Warriors were able to come away with a 121-116 victory to take a 2-0 series lead thanks a big game from the returning Steph Curry.

How It Happened

After an early back-and-forth, the Pelicans pulled out in front with an 11-6 lead with 6:56 left in the first quarter. However, the Warriors kept the ballgame within reach and made it a two-point ballgame after a layup by Kevon Looney with 34.5 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Things started to get chippy in the second quarter with the lead being exchanged a total of nine times. Golden State was able to take a three-point lead into the locker room after a Klay Thompson bank shot as time expired.

The Warriors kept control of the lead to start the second half before New Orleans got back in front with a pullup shot from Anthony Davis with 7:03 left in the third. It didn’t last long and a flagrant 1 on Solomon Hill helped the Warriors establish a six point lead late in the third quarter.

Things got interesting with 7:48 in the fourth after a three-pointer by Rajon Rondo made it a one-point ballgame. However, an and-one by Andre Iguodala really helped slam the door on any chances of a rally.

Big Number: 0

It’s pretty rare to not see Anthony Davis approach the free throw line. Add Jrue Holiday to that and it’s something that has never happened when both players are on the court. This was one of the biggest reasons why the Pelicans took the loss on Tuesday night.

Player of the Game: Steph Curry

Curry came off the bench and came up huge, shooting 50 percent from three and racked up 28 points on the evening. Not bad for a player that hadn’t played in the last month due to injury.
