Arkansas Slips Past LSU in Series Opener 5-4

Posted by clintdomingue on May 5, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The Arkansas Razorbacks (33-13. 14-8 SEC) proved why they’re one of the best in the SEC on Friday night, rallying back in the eighth and taking a 5-4 win on Friday night over LSU (26-20, 10-12 SEC).

How It Happened

Eric Cole got things going for the Razorbacks in the leadoff spot with a nine-pitch at bat resulting in a solo shot out to right field. LSU responded though with Daniel Cabrera hitting a sac fly out to center field, scoring Beau Jordan.

The home runs kept coming for Arkansas, this time it was a leadoff home run by Grant Koch in the third to make it 2-1. However, the Tigers responded in the bottom frame with a solo shot of their own courtesy of Beau Jordan to even things up at 2. Later in the inning, Austin Bain gave LSU their first lead of the ballgame with an RBI single out to left field.

The Tigers made it 4-1 in the sixth when Hunter Feduccia hit an RBI single up the middle, scoring Austin Bain. However, things went sour in the eighth when Cole hit his second dinger of the evening. The Razorbacks weren’t done though as they put together two more runs in the eighth courtesy of a pair of singles by Evan Lee and Jared Gates respectively.

Nick Bush dropped to 0-1 on the season, allowing one run off of four hits and walked one in two innings of work.

Big Number: 3

The home runs came in bunches for the Razorbacks with three of them on the evening. The fact that all of them led off an inning is quite impressive.

Player of the Game: Eric Cole

The leadoff man for the Razorbacks did his job, going three-of-four on the evening with a pair of home runs and a double. That’s a great night for any position player.

Next Up: Game Two; First Pitch Set for 7 PM
