LSU Takes Down McNeese in Seven Innings

Posted by clintdomingue on May 9, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

That’s certainly one way to gain a measure of revenge. The last two times LSU (29-20) and McNeese (22-27) faced off, the Cowboys had come away with a narrow victory. This time around though, LSU’s offense was simply too much as they took down the Cowboys 13-3 after the run rule was put in effect in the middle of the sixth.

How It Happened

McNeese got out in front early in the ballgame with a two-run double courtesy of Duhon. However, the Tigers responded in the bottom frame with an RBI double from Austin Bain followed up by an RBI single by Hunter Feduccia that got another run across after a fielding error by Jacob Stracner to make it 3-2.

However, Brett Whelton had other plans as he tied things up with an RBI single out to right field. LSU started to put things out of reach in the bottom of the second though with a five run inning that was capped off by a three-run bomb out to right field from Daniel Cabrera.

The Tigers kept it going in the third with a four-run inning highlighted by a single up the middle from Antoine Duplantis. The finishing touches were put on by Brandt Broussard with an RBI single to the shortstop, making it 13-3.

Trent Vietmeier got his first win of the season allowing one hit in one and a third innings of work.

Big Number: 14

LSU’s offense was a like a buzzsaw on Wednesday night, racking up 13 runs off of 14 hits on the evening. What a way to keep the bats hot.

Player of the Game: Daniel Cabrera

The left fielder was phenomenal, going three-for-three with a three-run bomb the big highlight for the Tigers.
