LSU (8-0) looked dominant on Wednesday night, scoring eight runs in the first inning on the way to a 17-4 rout of the Southern Jags (4-3).
How It Happened:
After Antoine Duplanits surprisingly lined out in the bottom of the first the Tigers looked dominant, racking up eight runs highlighted by a three-run bomb by Cade Beloso. The game was already out of reach, but LSU wasn’t done with a three-run third inning highlighted by a two-run single by Duplantis quickly made it 12-0.
The Jags finally got on the board in the eighth with an RBI single from Tyler LaPorte, but it was too little too late as the Tigers had already amassed a sizable lead.
Big Number: 8
Eight runs off of eight hits isn’t something that happens often. That being said, it’s not often you see 13 players approach the plate in the first inning. It was quite impressive to see that from an LSU team that hasn’t always shown up against midweek opponents.
Player of the Game: Antoine Duplantis
It was business as usual for the senior, going 4-of-5 with a whopping five RBIs. Considering how good everyone else looked on Wednesday night, seeing that is nothing short of impressive.
