What a way to open up a series. The LSU Tigers needed a big performance from Zack Hess, considering the man who was on the bump for the Georgia Bulldogs in Emerson Hancock. It was an absolute pitcher’s duel in the series opener that saw the Tigers sneak by with a 1-0 win in Athens.
How It Happened:
Both teams couldn’t put anything together for much of the ballgame. In fact, it wasn’t until the top of the seventh that LSU started to put things together. Antoine Duplantis led off the inning with a double to center field, followed up by a ground out by Chris Reid to get the former Lafayette High Mighty Lion 90 feet away from home plate. Daniel Cabrera gave the Tigers the lone run with a sac fly to left field to get Duplantis home safely.
Big Number:8
Zack Hess was solid in eight innings of work, racking up eight strikeouts on the evening, giving him a 2-1 record on the season.
Player of the Game: Zack Hess
See above. Paul Mainieri mentioned before this season started about how he’s their dude and honestly, that seems to be the truth after his performance on Friday.
