Next year is the 20th anniversary of the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic and the field was announced for the three-day tournament and it will feature LSU for the third time in its history.
For the second time in its history, the field at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic will have an SEC vs Big 12 theme to it The last time they did this was in 2017 and it saw some of the highest attendance in the history of the event with over 50,000 fans filing into Minute Maid Park.
The Tigers will be the nightcap on Friday night when they take on the Texas Longhorns with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm. LSU debuted in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in 2015, a team that featured junior shortstop Alex Bregman, who ended up as the second overall pick in the MLB Draft for the Houston Astros that season.
Bregman helped lead the Astros to 2017 World Series title, and he was voted MVP of the 2018 MLB All-Star Game. The 2019 LSU squad is coming off an appearance in the Super Regionals and has won NCAA Regionals in four of the last five seasons.
The 2020 tournament marks the fifth year for it to carry the name Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, which has been set forth by a multi-year naming rights agreement between the Astros Foundation and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. The Astros Foundation operates the tournament and will donate a portion of each ticket sale directly to Shriners Hospitals for Children as well as provide other fundraising and awareness opportunities.
