Looking At The Ragin’ Cajuns’ Next Four Games

Posted by Louis Prejean on September 17, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team is coming off their biggest win of the young season against Texas Southern. Now, it only gets tougher from here.

The 77-6 win over Texas Southern was the largest margin of victory for Louisiana this season. They kept them out of the endzone while putting up touchdowns in a furious manner, even causing both teams to agree to 10-minute quarters in the second half.

But now the Ragin’ Cajuns enter their toughest stretch of the season in these next four games.

It all starts with the Ohio Bobcats this Saturday. Ohio is 1-2 this season. Don’t let the record fool you because Ohio is coming off a pair of 9-win seasons in 2017 and 2018.

After Ohio, Louisiana will stay on the road when they travel to play Georgia Southern. The Ragin’ Cajuns lost to Georgia Southern 34-24 the last time these two teams met in 2017.

Georgia Southern is 1-2 so far in 2019. They are coming off a 35-32 loss to Minnesota. and their season-opener was a 55-3 road loss to No. 4 LSU. Georgia Southern’s lone win was a 26-18 victory over Maine.

Despite the slow start for the Eagles, they won 10 games in 2018 on the back of their running game. They averaged 266.3 rushing yards per game and scored over 30 points a game last season.

Louisiana returns home for a game against Appalachian State. These teams played twice last year as App State took both contests. The second game came in the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Championship game where App State defeated Louisiana 30-19.

The fourth and final game of the challenging four-game stretch is a road game against Arkansas State on Oct. 17.

The Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the Red Wolves last season in a 47-43 shootout. Louisiana quarterback Levi Lewis only had two pass attempts in last year’s game. Now, as the starter, he will get his chance to produce against Arkansas State.

The Red Wolves are 1-2 this season, with losses to SMU and Georgia. Louisiana leads the all-time series with 24 wins. Arkansas State has won 20 of their 45 meetings. Yes, there was one tie. Since 2015, these teams have been alternating wins each year. Arkansas State won in 2015 and 2017, while Louisiana won in 2016 and 2018.

If the trend continues then it’ll be Arkansas State’s year.

This upcoming four-game stretch will tell us a lot about this Ragin’ Cajuns team and it will be crucial to Louisiana’s bowl eligibility hopes.
