The New Orleans Saints have added to their defensive backfield.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero both reported on Monday afternoon that the Saints have claimed the former New York Giants cornerback.
The roster move has been deferred until Tuesday because of the Indianapolis-New Orleans game on Monday night.
Janoris Jenkins was cut last Friday by the Giants after the veteran defensive back refused to apologize for using a slur on Twitter.
The 31-year-old Jenkins has a career-high four interceptions this season with 54 tackles while appearing in 13 games.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Jenkins came into the league in 2012 as second-round draft pick with the St. Louis Rams before signing with the Giants in 2016 when he would go on and earn Pro Bowl honors and second-team All-Pro honors. In his career, Jenkins has 22 interceptions, 7 touchdowns and 459 tackles.
Jenkins was a Parade All-American at Pahokee High School in Florida and signed with Urban Meyer to play at the University of Florida. Jenkins though was allegedly kicked off the team for marijuana possession and finished in career playing for the University of North Alabama.
