Houston Astros Fall to Arizona in Series Finale

Posted by clintdomingue on August 6, 2020 in Blogs, Houston Astros, Latest News

For much of Thursday night’s contest, it felt like the Houston Astros were going to get out of Phoenix, Arizona with the series win. However, a walk-off double gave the Diamondbacks a 5-4 win in the rubber match.

How It Happened:

The Astros got on the board in the top of the fourth with Yuli Gurriel hitting an RBI single to Nick Ahmed that allowed Jose Altuve to get home safely. Altuve followed that up in the sixth inning with a solo shot out to deep left field to make it a 2-0 lead for Houston.

That lead didn’t last long though with a three-run bottom of the sixth that was jumpstarted by an RBI double that was crushed by Christian Walker. Alex Bregman got the Astros back out in front in the top of the eighth with a two-out, two-run blast to left-center, making it a 4-3 ballgame.

The bottom of the ninth started off rough with Ryan Pressly walking Andy Young. That was followed up by a pair of singles from Ahmed and Ketel Marte and Kole Calhoun landed the crushing blow shortly after that with a walk-off double to drop the Astros to 6-6.

Big Number: 11

The Diamondbacks bats were on fire today, racking up 11 hits and big innings offensively helped them take the series.

Player of the Game:Jose Altuve

The former AL MVP had been struggling early on in this truncated season, but looked like he’s back to form after Thursday night, going 3-for-4 including a solo shot in the sixth.
