While all the conversation during the weekend was about the contract extension of Alvin Kamara and the season-opening victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one headline was buried underneath it all and it was the contract of linebacker DeMario Davis.

As first reported by Erin Andrews during the Fox broadcast of the Saints-Bucs contest, Davis signed a three-year extension on Sunday. The star linebacker joined the team in free agency in 2018 and quickly established himself as a leader both on and off the field.

“It’s so much of a blessing,” Davis said after Sunday’s 34-23 season-opening victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “Man, I am just so blessed, me (and) my family. It’s so much of a blessing that I really can’t even put it into words.”

Davis had six tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit in Sunday’s season-opening victory over Tampa Bay. Last season, when he was named first-team All-Pro, Davis led the Saints with 111 tackles, and added four sacks, nine quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, an interception and 12 passes defensed.
