The Southern Jaguars had a pair of players earn top conference honors.
Southern redshirt senior Devon Benn was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Jackson State on Saturday.
Benn rushed for 75 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry, and scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 20-yard touchdown run in the 34-14 victory.
Southern junior Jordan Lewis was named the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Lewis recorded four total tackles on Saturday including 3.5 tackles for loss (20 yards).
Southern will be off this weekend due to Prairie View A&M postponing Saturday’s game due to COVID-19 protocols within the PVAM program
Southern is scheduled to return on Saturday, April 17, when the Jaguars travel to Shreveport for the 47th Annual Bayou Classic taking on rival Grambling State University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
