Astros’ Aledmys Díaz Out 6-8 Weeks With Hand Injury

The Houston Astros received some tough news on Sunday morning regarding Aledmys Díaz as the utility player will be out for the next six-to-eight weeks due to a fractured left hand.

Diaz suffered the injury in Saturday’s 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays after being hit by a pitch in the second inning.

“All our prayers go out to him,” Baker said during a press conference prior to Sunday’s contest. “I went out and prayed by the water by Lake Erie yesterday that it wasn’t too serious or take too long. It was kind of a downer to be such a valuable part of his club and valuable person on the club. We’ve got to find a way to push on.”

The loss of Díaz is a big blow considering he’s the most versatile player on the team, playing every position except for center field and catcher this season. The 30-year-old was also swinging the bat well this season, hitting .278/.341/.435 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 34 games.
