After a 9-1 mercy ruled game on Thursday, the Ragin’ Cajuns received their second mercy rule in their second matchup with Alabama in the Mardi Gras Mambo tournament 4-1.  Cajuns kept the first 3 innings scoreless before a big run in the fourth and fifth inning for the Crimson Tide ending in a 8-0 loss in their final game of the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Cajuns come out first to pitch and keep the Alabama Crimson Tide to zero runs with a pop fly out by Kayla Falterman. Cajuns Stormy Kotzelnick is the first one on base in the game. End the first with no runs on one hit for Louisiana.

With multiple foul balls and only 3 hits the Tide ended their second inning with no runs. The wind and cold seem to be a factor as the inning ends with a 0-0 score.

Alabama ended the third with another pop fly out to center field. The Cajuns started with a stolen base by Stormy Kotzelnick and an error by third baseman Ashley Grange. Strikeout by  Raina O’Neal for Louisiana ended the third with another scoreless inning.

Two hits by Alabama and an error by O’Neal brought a batter to second and third. The Cajuns intentionally walked Kaylee Tow for bases loaded in the diamond. With a pitching change to Kendra Lamb for Louisiana a walk by Megan Bloodworth brings in a first run for The Crimson Tide. A second error by O’Neal then took in Alabama’s second and third runs ending the inning with a picked off runner at third. The Cajuns brought batters on the bases, but ended the fourth with zero runs.

The Cajuns couldn’t keep their hands on the ball as Alabama scored five runs in the fifth bringing the score to 8-0. Louisiana needed a run to keep the game going. With a stolen base to third, mercy rule ended the game in a strikeout by Maddie Hayden.

BIG NUMBER: 8

Despite the first 3 innings leaving the game scoreless the Cajuns couldn’t secure a 5-0 record for the tournament as Alabama mercy ruled Louisiana with a 8-0 score.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Stormy Kotzelnick

Cajuns almost scored a run in the beginning of the third with a stolen base by Stormy Kotzelnick after an error by the third baseman with the closest the Cajuns came to scoring a run all game.

UP NEXT: Louisiana (10-2) returns to action Tuesday with a double header against Stephen F. Austin. First pitch is set for 3 p.m followed by game two at 5 p.m.
