LAKE CHARLES — The McNeese Cowboys wrapped up the first spring football camp of the Gary Goff era with Saturday’s scrimmage inside Cowboy Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The second series of the scrimmage — a red-zone series — ended with a touchdown as Walker Wood found wide receiver Severyn Foster for a jump-ball 13-yard touchdown catch.

The next series — which was a full drive series — ended with another touchdown. Running back Deonta McMahon burst through the line for a 29-yard score.

Knox Kadum took over at quarterback on the next series and drove the Cowboys down the field. The drive, which featured Kadum completing four straight passes, ended with a 42-yard field goal by CJ Moya.

In the second red-zone series, quarterback Cade Bartlett faked a hand-off to Marcuse McElroy and ran around the end for a seven-yard touchdown.

The Cowboys defense came up with a stop on the next possession.

After an interception by Miles Thomas was nullified due to pass interefence, the defense forced its turnover after Tremayne Evans picked off a Kadum pass in the end-zone.

The offense responded with a eight-play, 65-yard drive that was capped by Wood finding Markel Cotton over the middle for a 39-yard touchdown.

The final scoring play came on the next drive when Kadum hit wide receiver Josh Matthews for a four-yard touchdown.

BIG NUMBER: 11.0
McNeese ran only 19 rushing plays which netted the team exactly 100 yard but McMahon made the most of his carries. The Cowboys running back carried the ball five times for 55 yards which produced a healthy 11.0 yards per carry average.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: KNOX KADUM & WALKER WOOD
Kadum overcame a slow start to finish strong as he completed 11-of-18 passes for 116 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Wood meanwhile went 9-for-11 for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

UP NEXT: McNeese will now take a few months off before preparing for fall camp.
