Victor Wembanyama will not be a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pels were given the 14th pick in the draft lottery, which is where they were slotted with just a 0.5% to have the first overall pick and the right to draft the French superstar.
That honor will instead go to the San Antonio Spurs, who will have the top pick for the first time since 1997 when they selected Tim Duncan. The Houston Rockets and Charlotte Hornets joined the Spurs as having the best odds to obtain the number one pick at 14%.
The Pelicans last had the top pick in 2019 when they had just a 6% chance of acquiring it. With the selection, they took a generational superstar in Zion Williamson. Since being drafted, he’s played in 114 games and has struggled to stay on the court. However, when on the court, Zion is a difference maker, averaging 26 points per game so far in his career.
According to a mock draft, the Pelicans could select Keyonte George out of Baylor with the 14th pick.
