The Southland Conference announced its postseason baseball awards on Monday and the McNeese Cowboys had several players recognized. Grant Rogers was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season. Rogers has been outstanding this year, posting an 11-1 record with an ERA of 2.00. Rogers was also named to the All-SLC first team and the All-Defensive team.
In addition to Rogers, second basemen Brad Burckel was named second-team All-SLC. Burckel is hitting .287 to go along with eight homers and 33 RBIs.
Lastly, it was outfielder Cooper Hext who earned a spot alongside Rogers on the All-Defensive team. Hext made just one error all season for the Cowboys and also had five outfield assists.
McNeese will face Texas A&M Corpus-Christi in an elimination game at Joe Miller Ballpark tonight, May 23rd, at 6:00 PM. A win would extend McNeese’s season and enter them into the full double-elimination portion of the Southland Conference Tournament.
