The Houston Astros defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park. The Astros claimed the series with the win and will head back to Houston after an off day tomorrow.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Giants (50-71) went with Adrian Houser on the mound. Houser cruised through the first few innings, retiring the first nine Astros including four strikeouts.
The Astros (62-60) countered with Bryan King as an opener. He only lasted two thirds of an inning, giving way to Enyel De Los Santos. Victor Bericoto drove in a run with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Giants in the first.
Houser would go six scoreless for the Giants, creating his best outing of the season. The Astros pitching staff struggled through the early innings, but managed to keep the Giants at just one run.
In the seventh, Houston got on the board. A misplayed ball in the outfield and sacrifice fly from new Astro Nelson Velazquez made it 1-1.
Then, in the next frame, the Astros took the lead. A Taylor Trammell triple was followed by a Nick Allen sacrifice fly to give Houston a 2-1 lead.
Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader were able to navigate the last couple innings, giving the Astros a narrow 2-1 win.
BIG NUMBER: 2
The Astros scored their only two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies. The offense scuffled, but converted in a couple of key spots to help them secure the series.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Taylor Trammell
In a day where the Astros offense struggled, Trammell had the biggest swing. He sent a ball off of the right center field wall, strolling into third with a triple and eventually scoring the game-winning run.
UP NEXT: The Astros will have an off day tomorrow before returning home to begin a series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
