Former LSU All-American and Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman has been selected to the 2023 American League All-Star roster.
It is the second All-Star recognition of Gausman’s career. He was previously voted to the National League squad for the 2021 All-Star Game as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
The 2023 MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
Gausman’s selection marks the seventh time in eight seasons that a former Tiger has been chosen for the Midsummer Classic.
The Colorado native, who pitched at LSU in 2011 and 2012, is currently playing in his 11th MLB season. Gausman has a 3.04 ERA this season, and leads the American League in strikeouts with 146.
Druing his 11-season career, Gausman has pitched in 285 MLB games with the Baltimore Orioles (who drafted in the first round in 2012), the Atlanta Braves, the Cincinnati Reds, the Giants and the Blue Jays.
As a freshman at LSU, Gausman went 5-6 overall with a 3.51 ERA with 86 strikeouts. He would then earn All-American honors as a sophomore in 2012. That season he went 12-2 overall on the mound with a 2.77 ERA, recording 135 strikeouts in 123.2 innings while limiting opponents to a .229 batting average.
