PREP PROFILE Q&A: LCA DB Chris Helaire

Posted by jamesmeche on October 19, 2023 in Blogs, Featured, High School Sports, James's Blog, Latest News, Local News, Sports News, What's Hot, What's New

The Lafayette Christian Academy Knights continue to show off their dominance against opponents and improved to 6-1 on the season with a 62-3 win over the Teurlings Catholic Rebels.

In that blowout win, defensive back Chris Helaire got the better of Teurlings quarterback Preston Welch by intercepting three of his passes last Thursday night. The junior also recorded a couple of tackles in the win.

On the season, Helaire had made 13 tackles, intercepted five passes for 130 yards, forced a fumble, then recovered the ball, and scored a touchdown en route to a 6-1 record for the Knights.

Question: What were you and the coaches seeing on tape that allowed you to intercept three of Preston Welch’s passes last Thursday?

Answer: When we were watching the film, we noticed that Teurlings likes to run a lot of crossing routes and different types of deep and short route combinations. I needed to know when to switch to different guys and when to stay locked on with my man.

Q: Where have you seen yourself grow the most from the beginning of the offseason to now?

A: I would say that my work ethic has improved the most. I was putting in the work after summer workouts and doing things that I wasn’t usually doing last year.

Q: What’s it been like being coached by Hunter Landry?

A: He’s been a good coach. He’s always putting us in good situations to win games, allows us to play to the best of our abilities, and pushes us to be better.

Q: Which NFL player do you model your game after and relate to the most?

A: I like to watch Jaire Alexander play. I like how he plays physically against opposing wide receivers.

Q: What will it take for this team to take down Westgate on Friday and improve to 7-1 on the season?

A: We’ll need to come together and play as one. As long as we make sure we’re doing all of our assignments and don’t play to their level, we will get the job done.

The Knights of Lafayette Christian Academy will go on the road this Friday to take on the Westgate Tigers. Kickoff for that game will be at 7:00 p.m.
