D-LOH’S PREP FIVE: One week left to settle things

Posted by dawsoneiserloh on October 31, 2023 in Blogs, Dawson's Blogs, Featured, High School Sports, Latest News, Local News, Sports News, What's Hot, What's New

At the end of this week, the 2023 regular season for high school football in Louisiana will be complete. Playoff seedings will be out by the end of the weekend, and the roads to state championships will be crafted for those in the Acadiana area.

However, there is plenty still left to settle, teams looking to improve their seeding, and teams looking to get into the playoffs altogether.

Here are my five takeaways for this week:

  1. Acadiana survives possible “Game of the Year”: Carencro had been unbeaten before their clash with Acadiana last week. What ensued was a 27-26 back-and-forth thriller, with Acadiana coming out victorious.
  2. Can LCA vs STM top it?:  This game has been circled on the schedule since the end of last season. LCA and STM will face off in what could be a preview of a matchup with more on the line come playoff time. It has the potential to be as good as the Carencro-Acadiana clash was last week.
  3. Opelousas Catholic and St. Edmund’s square off for the district: The Vikings have been ahead of the Blue Jays for some time. However, this year there is reason to believe St. Ed’s can make this a ballgame. If they were to win, it would create a three-way tie in the district, bringing in Catholic-Point Coupee as well. For now, though, it is still OC’s district to lose.
  4. Abbeville and Kaplan also set to decide district: Both teams enter this contest 7-2 and have had very solid seasons. The winner of this game will take the district and have plenty of momentum heading into the playoffs. Both seem built to make a nice run.
  5. Notre Dame peaking at the right time: The Pioneers have scored at least 40 and given up seven or fewer points in each of their last four games. Despite having three losses, Notre Dame has not lost in their classification and looks primed for another deep playoff run.

Dawson Eiserloh is the co-host of “RP3, D-Loh & Meche” which is broadcast weekdays (11-1) on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles — Southwest Louisiana’s Sports Station.
