After the break from final exams, Louisiana and LSU met with each other on the hardwood on Sunday afternoon. It was knotted up at 28 after the first half, but Kim Mulkey’s team outscored their opponents 55-25 in the second half to pick up an 83-53 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

This in-state battle between the Tigers and the Cajuns started very close, with LSU leading by just one point at the first media timeout with 3:46 remaining in the opening frame. Mikaylah Williams started hot with five points for the Tigers while Brandi Williams had four for the Cajuns.

However, the Cajuns came out hot in the second quarter, shooting 6-8 from the field to take a 22-19 lead over the Tigers. LSU was held scoreless for the last 4:43 heading into the media timeout.

Brandi Williams continued to have a hot hand on her way to 11 first-half points as the Cajuns and Tigers were tied at 28 at the halftime break. In the first 20 minutes, LSU was shooting 8-25 from the field.

After hitting the first shot of the third quarter, Louisiana fell into a big hole as LSU went on a 13-0 run to take a 41-30 lead with 5:11 left in the third quarter. Aneesah Morrow has six points during that run to lead the Tigers in the second half.

LSU continued to keep their foot on the gas, outscoring the Cajuns 15-7 to make a 56-37 lead after three complete quarters inside the PMAC. The Cajuns kept it very close through the first half, but the Tigers took control of the game in the second half to take a big lead.

In the fourth, LSU continued overpowering the Cajuns, outscoring Louisiana 45-19 since the halftime break. Aneesah Morrow continued to be a difference-maker for the Tigers with 27 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.

LSU finished off the Cajuns with Morrow’s 27, 20 from Angel Reese, and 18 from Mikayah Williams as the Tigers defeated Louisiana 83-53.
