After a season where the LSU Tigers finished 105th of 130 in total defense, Brian Kelly has decided to make some much-needed changes.

Defensive coordinator Matt House, safeties coach Kerry Cooks, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey have all been relieved of their duties from the LSU coaching staff, according to multiple reports.

“This morning, I met with Matt House, Kerry Cooks, Robert Steeples, and Jimmy Lindsey to inform them that they would not return to our coaching staff in 2024,” Kelly said in a statement. “I want to thank each of these coaches for their work on behalf of our football program and our institution during their time here. Decisions like these are always difficult, and we do not make them lightly, but they are made with the best interests of our program and our student-athletes in mind. Moving forward, we will continue working to build a championship caliber coaching staff in support of our mission to Graduate Champions.”

House’s defense gave up over 400 yards of total offense per game to opponents and nearly six yards per play, second to last in the Southeastern Conference in both categories.

2023 was House’s second season in Baton Rouge after being hired by Brian Kelly in 2022 from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he served as linebackers coach for the Super Bowl Champs.

Cooks came to LSU with Kelly after being on his staff at Notre Dame while Steeples was hired in December 2021 from the Minnesota Vikings. Jimmy Lindsey spent just nine months with the Tigers’ program and stepped away in August to deal with a personal matter.

This is a developing story as Kelly will be looking to revamp his defensive staff heading into the 2024 season and we will update you on the latest news regarding coaching hires.
