Houston Astros right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman will miss the upcoming 2024 season.

Astros General Manager Dana Brown announced on Tuesday that Gravemen underwent surgery on his right shoulder. The procedure was performed last week.

After being acquired from the Chicago White Sox in a trade on July 28, Graveman posted a 2.42 ERA in 23 appearances in the regular season for the Astros last year.

At the end of the regular season, Graveman developed soreness in his right shoulder and was unable to pitch for the Astros in the postseason.

According to the Astros, Graveman underwent a program of rest and rehab before returning to a flat-ground throwing program in preparation for Spring Training. However, the discomfort in his shoulder returned after he began throwing.

The 33-year-old is in his second stint with the Astros.

Graveman also spent the second half of the 2021 season with Houston after being acquired from Seattle Mariners in a trade and helped the Astros advance to the World Series.

In nine postseason appearances in 2021, Graveman was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11.0 innings of work.

Since 2021, Graveman has been one of the top relievers in the American League, having posted a 2.74 ERA in 186 combined relief appearances with 24 saves and 51 holds for the Mariners, White Sox, and Astros.
