LSU welcomed Liberty to Tiger Park for the final weekend series of the 2024 regular season as the Tigers looked to hang on to a national need and the Flame were looking to solidify themselves as a regional team.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

LSU got the bases loaded in the bottom of the second after walks to Taylor Pleasants, Maci Bergeron, and Madyson Manning for Ciara Briggs, who grounded out for the third out of the frame.

The contest stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when LSU got on the board after singles from Sierra Daniels and McKenzie Redoutey put a pair on. Ali Newland hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Daniels and making it a 1-0 game. Shortly after, Raeleen Gutierrez lined a base hit into center field to score Redoutey and increase the lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Madyson Manning hit a sac bunt teamed with a throwing error to score two more runs and make it 4-0 Tigers in the sixth.

LSU got three outs in quick succession for the seventh inning, picking up the 4-0 win behind a complete game from Sydney Berzon.

BIG NUMBER: 4

LSU scored four runs in the contest with two coming in the fifth and two in the sixth off of four base hits.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sydney Berzon

The sophomore ace pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits but no runs and striking out four.

UP NEXT: LSU and Liberty will return to Tiger Park for Game 2 of the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6pm on SEC Network+.
