It was a stellar spring season for Quitman.
Not only did the softball team capture its first state title in school history, the QHS baseball squad made its first championship in its first appearance at the state tournament two weeks later.
So, it should come as no surprise that Quitman claimed three of the top four honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s all-state softball and baseball teams.
Quitman as junior Cali Deal won Outstanding Player honors in softball, while her coach, Justin Dodson, was voted Coach of the Year.
Meanwhile, Quitman’s Joe Lockhart won baseball Coach of the Year honors.
Tanner Dupuy of champion Avoyelles Public Charter claimed Outstanding Player honors in baseball. It was APC’s second straight Division V select state championship.
Deal, an LSU commit, was 20-3 on the season in the softball circle, recording 218 strikeouts with a 0.986 ERA, while also batting .440 with four home runs and 30 RBIs.
Dupuy, a senior for Avoyelles, batted .460 on the season with eight doubles and three triples. He struck out only three times. Teammate
