The University of Louisiana and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard have agreed to a contract extension through 2029, announced Tuesday by the university.
Maggard, who joined the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2017, has brought unprecedented success on the field, in the classroom, and the community to the athletic department since arriving from Missouri.
Maggard has helped guide Louisiana through the new age of college athletics that has included new TV rights deals, conference realignment, and the implementation of NIL procedures.
“It is an absolute honor to serve as the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Louisiana and I am grateful for the confidence President (Joseph) Savoie continues to show in me,” Maggard said. “Both Kerry and I consider southern Louisiana home and although we have made great progress since 2017, we have so much more to accomplish for UL Athletics these next five years.”
Louisiana has won 21 Sun Belt Conference, bowl game, and NCAA Regional championships in men’s and women’s basketball, football, baseball, softball, and golf while earning a football bowl bid for a school-record six consecutive years under Maggard.
In November 2023, Maggard and University leadership announced the $65 million Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium project, giving Cajun Field a major renovation to become a top facility in college football. The project is scheduled to be completed for the 2025 football season.
Two of the largest gifts ever received by Louisiana Athletics came under Maggard’s leadership as the RCAF has raised over $35 million for the project.
Community service has been a mainstay in the department since Maggard’s arrival as Louisiana has topped the Sun Belt in community service hours four years in a row and had the second-most community service hours nationally in 2023-24.
Under the direction of Maggard, the Athletics Department also launched an in-house ticket operation, partnering with industry leader Paciolan to provide a better ticketing experience for future events.
