Olympics Roundup: August 6th

This summer, the Olympics are taking place in Paris, France.

Here at ESPN Southwest Louisiana, we want to make sure you are kept in the know with all things happening regarding the USA as well as athletes with local ties.

Basketball

  • Team USA defeated Brazil 122-87 in the Men’s quarterfinal

Athletics

  • Team USA’s Emily Mackay, Elle St. Pierre, and Nikki Hiltz all advanced past Round 1 and into the semi-final of the Women’s 1500m
  • Team USA’s Curtis Thompson missed out on the Men’s Javelin Throw final by just one spot, placing 13th in qualification
  • Team USA’s Freddie Crittenden qualified for the semi-final by winning his heat in the Repechage Round of the Men’s 110m Hurdles
  • Team USA’s Tara Davis-Woodhall, Jasmine Moore, and Monae Nichols all qualified for the final of the Women’s Long Jump
  • Team USA’s Kendall Ellis qualified for the semi-final of the Women’s 400m by winning her heat of the Repechage Round
  • Team USA’s Trevor Bassitt made the semifinal of the Men’s 400m Hurdles by winning his heat of the Repechage Round
  • Team USA’s Quincy Hall, Christopher Bailey, and Michael Norman qualified for the final of the Men’s 400m
  • Team USA’s Annette Nneka Echikunwoke won silver in the Women’s Hammer Throw; Deanna Price also competed in the final
  • Team USA’s Jasmine Jones, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Anna Cockrell qualified for the Women’s 400m Hurdles final
  • Team USA’s Cole Hocker won gold in the Men’s 1500m; Yared Nuguse earned bronze and Hobbs Kessler also competed in the final
  • Team USA’s Courtney Wayment and Valerie Constien competed in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase final, but did not medal
  • Team USA’s Gabrielle Thomas earned gold in the Women’s 200m; Brittany Brown earned bronze and McKenzie Long also competed in the final

Beach Volleyball

  • Team USA’s Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng were defeated by Switzerland 2-0

Water Polo

  • Team USA defeated Hungary 5-4 in the Women’s quarterfinal

Volleyball

  • Team USA won their Women’s quarterfinal against Poland 3-0

Canoe Sprint

  • Team USA’s Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker moved to the quarterfinal of the Men’s Kayak Double 500m; the duo then moved onto the semifinal by finishing top four in their quarterfinal

Skateboarding

  • Team USA’s Bryce Wettstein advanced to the final of the Women’s Park; Ruby Lilly and Minna Stess competed but did not make the final
  • Wettstein finished 6th in the final but did not medal

Soccer

  • Team USA defeated Germany 1-0 in the Women’s semifinal

Wrestling

  • Team USA’s Kamal Ameer Bey lost the 1/8 final of the Men’s Greco-Roman 77kg
  • Team USA’s Josef Patrick Rau lost the 1/8 final of the Men’s Greco-Roman 97kg
  • Team USA’s Sarah Ann Hildebrant won the 1/8 and 1/4 final of the Women’s Freestyle 50 kg; she then won the semifinal as well
  • Team USA’s Amit Elor won gold in the Women’s Freestyle 68 kg final

Artistic Swimming

  • Team USA placed second in the Team Free Routine

Cycling Track

  • Team USA qualified 2nd in the Women’s Team Pursuit

Diving

  • Team USA’s Carson Tyler and Andrew Capobianco both qualified for the semifinal of the Men’s 3m Springboard

Equestrian

  • Laura Kraut and Karl Cook competed in the Jumping Individual Final but did not medal

Sport Climbing

  • Team USA’s Brooke Raboutou and Natalia Grossman both advanced to the final of Women’s Boulder & Lead

Table Tennis

  • Team USA lost to Germany 3-2 in the Women’s Round of 16

Boxing

  • Team USA’s Omari Jones earned bronze in the Men’s 71kg
