School Closures for Tropical Storm Francine

With the news of Tropical Storm Francine and its impending landfall this week, school districts around Acadiana are announcing closures. Please bookmark this page for the latest updates

LAFAYETTE PARISH

  • All LPSS schools will dismiss early on Tuesday and will be closed both Wednesday and Thursday for the storm. Administrators and facilities will assess the damage on Thursday and release more information.
  • The early dismissal schedule for Tuesday is as follows:
  • 10:30 a.m. Dismissal High Schools, including:
    • David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy
    • Lerosen Preparatory School
  • NOTE: All high school extracurricular and athletic activities must be complete and campuses clear by 12:30 p.m.
  • 11:15 a.m. Dismissal
    • All Elementary Schools, excluding
      • J. Wallace James Elementary School
      • Truman Early Childhood Education Center
  • This does include:
    • Milton Elementary /Middle School
    • Early College Academy (ECA) – no busses running Tuesday
  • 12:00 p.m. Dismissal All Middle Schools, including the following Elementary Schools
    • J. Wallace James Elementary School
    • Truman Early Childhood Education Center

Other Important Dismissal Announcements

  • Edward J. Sam Accelerated School – the second session is canceled on Tuesday.
  • W. D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center – students attending the second half of the day will stay at their base school.
  • Transportation
    • Buses will be sent to the schools at the dismissal times listed above to return students home.
    • Parents should pick up students who are car riders.
    • All afternoon activities, such as after-school care, tutoring, and sporting events, including practices and extracurricular activities, are canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Due to forecast weather from Tropical Storm Francine, UL Lafayette will close at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will remain closed until noon on Thursday, Sept. 12.

ACADIA PARISH

  • Acadia Parish schools will dismiss at Noon Tuesday and be closed on Wednesday for the storm. Other closures and additional plans will be announced Wednesday evening.

CALCASIEU PARISH

  • Schools in Calcasieu will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday in anticipation of the storm. Decisions on further clsoures will be made at a later time.

VERMILION PARISH

  • All Vermilion Parish schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday with a strong possibility of a Thursday closure.

ST MARTIN PARISH

  • Schools will dismiss at Noon on Tuesday and be closed on Wednesday.
