Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball senior Erica Lafayette was honored as the Sun Belt Conference’s Newcomer of the Year, the league announced on Monday.

The honor comes after a season in which Lafayette led the Cajuns in scoring with 14.8 points per game. Additionally, she averaged 16.8 points per game during conference play.

In addition to the Newcomer award, Lafayette earned 2nd Team All-SBC honors.

A native of Baton Rouge, Lafayette transferred in after playing previously at Rutgers. Her return to her home state for her final collegiate season resulted in career-high numbers across the board.

The Cajuns are the #7 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which begins in Pensacola, Florida tomorrow. Louisiana will play their first game of the event on Thursday afternoon.
