The relatively unknown duo of Isaiah Salinda and Kevin Velo hold a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana. They sit with a score of -17 after today.
The duo fired a course-record 58 on day one, shooting -14 to take the early lead. The first round of the tournament takes place with a “Best Ball” format in the only team event on tour.
Joining the leaders near the top of the board are Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin, who sit just one shot back at -16. They used a -6 round of 66 to move up several spots on Friday. The Hojgaard brothers of Nicolai and Rasmus sit in solo third place at -15.
The defending champions of the event are Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. McIlroy is coming off of his win at The Masters, which allowed him to complete the career Grand Slam, winning all four majors. They shot -8 in round one, and were looking to make up ground in the second. Sitting at -5 for the second round until the last two holes, the duo made back-to-back bogeys to fall to -3 for the round and -11 overall. They sit in T-16th at the midway point.
The event shifts back to Best Ball on Saturday before Sunday’s Alternate Shot final round.
