The Houston Astros fell 6-1 to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night inside Daikin Park. The loss came in the return of Yordan Alvarez, who had missed the previous 100 games with injury.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Astros (72-60) started with ace Hunter Brown on the mound. He started strong in the first, retiring the side in order.

The Rockies (38-94) went with Tanner Gordon on the bump, who has struggled this season with an ERA over seven entering play. He allowed two baserunners including a walk to Alvarez, but ultimately put up a zero in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Jesus Sanchez got the scoring going with a solo home run, his first since being traded to the Astros. That made it 1-0 in favor of Houston.

In the third inning, a Jeremy Pena error would be costly for the Astros. After the error allowed for traffic on the bases, a Hunter Goodman two-run home run made it 4-1 Rockies by the end of the frame.

The Astros offense would go cold, as they could not solve Gordon on this night. The top of the fifth saw Mickey Moniak come through with a two-run double to extend the lead to 6-1 for the Rockies.

Down the stretch, Houston could not find the offense to get back into the game. They fell 6-1.

BIG NUMBER: 4

Four runs came across in the third inning for Colorado, all started by the Pena error. That proved costly, even in a night where the Astros #4 Jesus Sanchez hit his first home run with the team.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Mickey Moniak

Moniak went 2-3 with three RBIs on this night, helping to pace the Colorado offense.

UP NEXT: The Astros and Rockies will play game two of the series at 7:10 PM. You can listen to the game on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
