LSU defensive back Dashawn Spears has been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The honor comes after the sophomore had two interceptions in LSU’s 20-10 win over Florida on Saturday night.
Spears, a defensive back from Denham Springs, played in 13 games as a freshman with three starts. On Saturday night, he made his biggest impact yet as a Tiger, turning over DJ Lagway and the Florida offense twice. One of his interceptions was returned 58 yards for a touchdown which put LSU up 20-10 in the third quarter and ultimately sealed the victory.
In addition to the two picks, Spears also contributed two tackles in the victory.
The Tigers will face Southeastern Louisiana at home this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 PM and you can hear the action on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
