The McNeese Cowboys fell to the Nicholls Colonels 31-7 on Saturday evening in Thibodaux. The loss moves McNeese to 2-6 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nicholls got the ball first and took full advantage. Their struggling offense found their way, going 10 plays and 84 yards to score. Ean Rodrigue, who got the start at quarterback, scored to give the Colonels a 7-0 lead.
McNeese didn’t score on their first drive, and the Colonels went on another great drive. After 85 yards, they settled for a 22 yard field goal to go up 10-0.
To start the second quarter, McNeese answered with a quick and effective drive. They went six plays and 88 yards, scoring on a pass from Jake Strong to Logan Mauldin from 20 yards out. That made it 10-7.
That score would hold until the half. However, McNeese would throw a pick six to Ty Marsh to start the second half, extending the Nicholls lead to 17-7.
The Colonels then put a 17 play, 85 yard touchdown drive together to extend the lead further. With McNeese struggling offensively, Nicholls scored on their first play of the next drive. Rodrigue hit _ Johnson for a 69 yard score to fully break it open at 31-7 Colonels.
Nicholls was able to sit on that lead and win by a comfortable 31-7 margin.
