LAKE CHARLES – With an impressive victory over Interstate 10 rival Louisiana on Friday, the McNeese Cowboys remained at No. 22 in the latest CollegeInsider Men’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

The Cowboys (3-1) went 2-0 in last week’s slate of games, capping with an 88-62 blowout victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns in front of a record home crowd in Townsley Law Arena.

Gonzaga tops the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll for the third straight week, followed by Saint Mary’s, Liberty, Yale, and Miami (OH) to round out the top five.

Santa Clara, which defeated McNeese on Nov. 7, is ranked 10th, and Southland Conference foe University of New Orleans is ranked 25th.
McNeese will be back in action on Sunday when it goes up against George Washington at the Cayman Islands Classic.

The Cowboys, under first-year coach Bill Armstrong, will enter that game ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in scoring with a 103.5 average, second only to Will Wade’s NC State Wolfpack, who is averaging 106.0 ppg.

McNeese leads the nation with 54.5 bench points scored per game, led by freshman Larry Johnson, who is 10th individually in scoring with a 24.3 average.

The Cowboys lead the Southland Conference in 19 team stat categories.
