The Southland Conference released their postseason baseball honors on Wednesday, and the McNeese Cowboys had multiple honorees.
Eric Nachtsheim took home Southland Relief Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-SLC, and outfielder Danny Barbero joined him on the First Team. Catcher Connor Walker and outfielder Isaiah Keller both made the SLC All-Defensive team.
Nachtsheim has been a catalyst for the McNeese pitching staff, totaling 17 appearances and stretching that into 73 innings of work. In addition to seven starts, he made 10 bullpen outings, totaling a 3.58 ERA with a team-high 116 strikeouts. He had more than double the number of K’s than anyone else on the roster. He also totaled three saves to lead the club.
Barbero led the Cowboys with a .313 average this season. He also tallied team highs in home runs with 11 and RBIs with 48. He was reliable defensively as well, making just two errors throughout the year.
Walker was as reliable as it gets behind the plate. He did not make an error all season, and he caught 50% of attempted base-stealers. Additionally, he added six homers and 15 RBIs on the offensive side.
Keller also was a truly reliable defender. He also made no errors, and added three outfield assists.
