The LSU Tigers Men’s Golf team competed at the NCAA DI Men’s National Championship in Carlsbad, California over the weekend and into Monday. They made a late run with great play in round three but fell five shots short of advancing to the Match Play portion of the Championship.

LSU opened the tournament with a sluggish score of +15, placing them all the way down in a tie for second to last. A second-round total of +5 moved them up the board some, but still had them on the outside looking in.

Everything changed for the Tigers on day three, as they put together a team score of -18, nine shots better than any other team in the 30-team Championship field. The day was highlighted by Dan Hayes, who shot a -8 64 to anchor LSU. This put them right on the outside of the top eight, giving them a chance to move on.

However, the final day fell just short. LSU finished +1 for the round, and +3 for the tournament. The teams tied at -2 competed in a playoff for the final Match Play spots, meaning LSU fell five shots short.

For the tournament, Hayes and Gunnlaugur Arni Sveinsson led the way, both totaling even par for the event.
